EAST STRAND
Also known as Curran Strand, is situated on the east side of Portrush, this impressive blue flag sandy beach extends 4km to Whiterocks beach and is flanked by dunes housing much wildlife, behind which lies the famous Royal Portrush Golf Links. Views from the shore include ‘The Skerries’, the town and The Giant’s Causeway headland. This beach features a long promenade, watersports centre containing amenities and large car park. It is a popular beach for walking, horse riding, water sports and hosts Parkrun.

STRONG CURRENT BETWEEN EAST STRAND AND WHITEROCKS
Curran point is not patrolled by lifeguards. There is a strong current that flows around the bend. Not recommended for swimming!
EAST STRAND HAZARDS
Permanent Rip Current Area
Due to a deeper channel of water running along the rocks, there is a permanent rip current located here. This rip current is stronger and more prominent with larger swell and waves.
Large Surf
During the winter there are large waves.

Strong rip current flows along here next to the sharp rocks beside the Arcadia wall.

Common rip current area where the stream joins the sea.

Usually there is a deeper channel of water in line with the end of the promenade susceptible to rip currents.
