AREA CODE: MOY 10
RUNKERRY BEACH
Also known as, Blackrock Strand and Bushfoot Strand is a sandy, yet often stoney beach located adjacent to the coastal village of Portballintrae. Near the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Giant’s Causeway, it is in a geological Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) extending from the River Bush east toward Runkerry House and flanked by extensive sand dunes and Bushfoot Golf Club. The rural setting of this beach allows for pedestrian access only via a path and bridge over the river. Strong currents and often powerful waves deem this beach unsafe for swimming, though it is popular with experienced surfers and dog walkers.
