AREA CODE: COL 3
DOWNHILL BEACH
This sandy beach lies west of the seaside town of Castlerock and extends 11km all the way to Magilligan Point. Backed by high cliffs, sand dunes and a waterfall this large beach offers incredible scenery, with iconic Mussenden Temple perched high on a cliff forming the central feature. Downhill is both a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) and was a film location for Dragonstone in the Game of Thrones. Behind the beach on the main road is a small coffee shop and car park with amenities. Cars are allowed to drive onto and park on the beach also, which is popular for all seaside sports and activities.
