CASTLEROCK BEACH
This large sandy beach extends almost 1km from its west end with dark basalt cliffs and promenade all the way to the River Bann at the eastern end where large sand dunes backing the beach integrate into the championship course of Castlerock Golf club. Beyond the wide beach is the seaside village of Castlerock which offers parking, shops, cafes, churches and a train station. All types of water sports, beach and holiday activities take place on this popular beach.

Don’t enter the water next to the Barmouth there is a strong rip current there! Stay in the lifeguarded area.

Vehicles On The Beach
Stay cautious of moving vehicles.
Tidal Cut Off
Tidal cut off to the west of the beach at the sea cliffs at high tide.
Temporary Rip Currents Along The Beach
Small rips are present at intervals along beach, varying according to conditions and tidal state.
Permanent Rip Current Area
Strong rip running along the Barmouth wall, stay away from this area.
Large Surf
During the winter there are large waves.
