PORTSTEWART STRAND
Under ownership of The National Trust, 3.2 km of golden sands gain this beach the accolade of being one of the best in Northern Ireland forming the starting (or end) point of the Causeway Coast Way. Views of the coast and Mussenden Temple are stunning and the sand dunes reaching 30.5m are some of the tallest and oldest in Ireland. This Area of Special Interest (ASI) is home to a myriad of wildlife and flowers. Car parking is permitted on the beach with the town of Portstewart being a short walk away where many amenities and entertainments can be found. This is a very popular beach for types of seaside activities year round.

Don’t enter the water next to the Barmouth there is a strong rip current there! Stay in the lifeguarded area.

Large Surf
During the winter there are large waves.
Permanent Rip Current Area
Strong rip current runs along the rocks, stay away from this area.
Tidal Cut Off
On mid to high tide the beach is cut off round to baileys.
Vehicles On The Beach
Stay cautious of moving Vehicles.
Wooden Posts Along Beach
Some can be submerged in the water on high tide.
Temporary Rip Currents Along The Beach
Small rips are present at intervals along beach, varying according to conditions and tidal state.
Permanent Rip Current Area
Strong rip running along Barmouth wall, stay away from this area.
